He gave me a situation- there’s a grandmother, a child, and a father inside a burning building. All are unconscious. Which do you save first and why? Lindsay The child. It's the youngest. The grandmother has had a while to live, the father, too and has had his chance at life but the child hasn't. It needs the chance to grow up. Someone else: The child. Because he's the future. phonopsia No. You don't save the child first. Phoenix The father because he can have another kid? angryvenice The grandmother? Lindsay Why shouldn't you save the child first? xx_sweatie First the child, Then the dad, then the grandmother. bottled_up_malice You save the grandma first because she is not as strong. phonopsia It's the father. You rescue the father- the provider of the family- first. Not the children or the elderly. The father provides for the family by an economic standard, thus, he is the first taken from the building. Lindsay That's crap. I say sr3w it and save the kid. angryvenice Same here. phonopsia It's amazing, is it not? kaiba200092 That is horrible. I say the child, then the grandmother, then the father. Human compassion. medallion777 Kids are the future. What is this father stuff I hear? whooshwiggywiggy That makes sense; children are troublesome, old people are wasting away anyway. Save the Money. He'll probably donate to the firestation later. xx_sweatieThats sooo stupid. phonopsia Without the father, according to my local fire department, the family cannot provide for themselves by an economic standpoint. Which- in this situation- IS true. I have mixed feelings about leaving the child behind, though. Lindsay The family? What about the mother? She can provide. If that's the whole family and the child and grandmother are gone then there is no family. The kid can always go to someone else like friends, family, or a foster home. phonopsia There isn't a mother in this situation, though. I asked him about IF there was a mother, though, and said she'd be saved second. I don't understand why females are second, but I suppose the order is father, mother, child, and then elderly. Lindsay Besides, you basically know the father's potential. Sure, when some kids are kidnapped, or die of a disease the parents step up and help others and stuff to keep it from happening again but it's not as likely with a fire. With the child we have no idea what his/her potential is. They could do something amazing. monson_is_hot No it's not, because what if the child is the ONLY one to get out and the father and the grandmother were their only family? They'd be sent to a foster home! I'd rather of died in the fire! So they take out the dad, he is young, to and extent, and he can actually make income orlando_hojo Alrighty. So if it's a desperate situation, and only one person can be saved, you would save the father, so he can provide for the family he isn't going to have. Lindsay If there is no mother and no other family, there is /no one/ for the father to provide for so that doesn't make sense. phonopsia Unfortunately, who or what an individual is doesn't come into focus when there's a burning building. Firemen get the facts, head in, and do what they're trained. I find it hard to accept- if there's a burning building you don't think TWICE about who to think first. You get whoever you can. Lindsay You'd rather die than get sent to a foster home? Not all foster homes are bad and abusive. Some are really good. The kid would be better off in one than dead. phonopsia One child and a grandmother. If they do survive, it's a family. If they don't, then you're up a creek. Lindsay You should print this off and show those bizzatches what to do when they're faced with that situation, ie: save the kid. phonopsia I'm not sure if it'll do any good, showing on how stubborn they are, but I suppose it'd be worth a shot. whooshwiggywiggy Saving a child would be completely worthless, though. It's only contributions to the economy are through how much it's parents are willing to spend on it. phonopsia By an economiv point of view, it does make since, and that's the point of view I saw it from... But judging from a mother's or father's or silbling's point of view, it's very upsetting. Lindsay Pfft. Fsck the economy. One average dude isn't going to make much of a difference. It never does. phonopsia Well, the economy and the well being of the family. If there IS a family to save, afterwards, that is. _kestrell_ Well I certainly wouldn't save the father. Who cares about him? Economic provider my 4ss. The kid can grow up and be an economic provider, too. Lindsay But from your scenario there /isn't/ a family afterwards. Although, I don't suppose that there's any real right answer because no matter what you do there's always a 'what if..' phonopsia Hell, for all we know the kid could come back to consciousness. It's always a 'what if' situation, that's agreed. wonderment Jack writes: It's sad, but human compassion is scr3wed. Save the kid and the grandma, and then the family dies poor on the streets. Logic is cold and harsh, but it's logical. Well, Fuck them, save the kid. Current Mood: Current Music: Some band at First Fri. They aren't that bad actually. April 30th, 2005:

Okay I am officially suffocating in my house. He had to spray again and so I covered it up with aerosol stuff and now I can't breathe. I'm dying here. Literally. Current Mood: :
M'kay so Thrice isn't the best band ever but I'm in love with their lyrics if not their singing. : ^^ "The Melting Point Of Wax" I've waited for this moment All my life and more And now I see so clearly What I could not see before. The time is now or never This chance won't come again Throw caution and myself into the wind. There's no promise of safety with these secondhand wings But I'm willing to find out what impossible means. A leap of faith. Parody of an angel Miles above the sea I hear the voice of reason Screaming up to me "You've flown far too high boy now you're too close to the sun, Soon your makeshift wings will come undone" But how will I know limits from lies if I never try? There's no promise of safety with these secondhand wings But I'm willing to find out what impossible means. Climb to the heavens on feathers and dreams Because the melting point of wax means nothing to me. Nothing to me Nothing to me I will touch the sun or I will die trying. Die Trying. Fly on these secondhand wings Willing to find out what impossible means Climb to the heavens on feathers and dreams Because the melting point of wax means nothing to me Nothing to me Means nothing to me Miles above the sea. I so < 3 this. Current Mood: Current Music: The melting point of wax by Thrice April 27th, 2005:
First was good. We're watching the Odyssey. So it went like this: Movie: Ody starts making out with Calypso Daniel:Pimp Others: Laugh laugh blah blah Daniel: Odysius is a pirate Kevin: And a man-whore Daniel: All pirates are man-whores Some other funny crap. During youth Everyone was playing ultimate frisbee so Ms. Coleen, Joe, Chelsea, Tatiana, Me, Jeanna were playing "football" it developed into everyone tackling each other. Jeanna and Chelsea double-teamed me and didn't get me down then I got Jeanna down and Chelsea got me down by herself. I feel kinda pushed out of church so I've been avoiding when I can, which is bad, but it's all good. Well....that's not really good but I was happy and bouncing a laughing today. 'Cause you know Jeanna's awesome. Then Me and Jeanna (Jeanna and I sorry) were sitting before we went outside and it was like: Jeanna: Idiot Me: Hooker Jeanna: Something I can't remember Me: Pirate Hooker Jeanna: Something really long that was really funny but I don't remember but it was really funny even though this is pointless. Then I came home and my house smells horrible because my dad was spraying something in Adam's room and I'm never going to be able to sleep because I can't sleep when it smells either bad or a smell that is overwhelming. This is both. I'm going to die tomorrow at school from lack of sleep. Took the Drug and Alcohol class. Four fricken hours of useless, pointless, crap that even the deputy teaching it told us was useless, pointless, crap. IT was so boring but I knew people. About 7 of the 20 even though I didn't talk to them all because one or two were on the other side of the room. Now I have a headache from the stupid smell. It'll just get worse and their is no where in the house without the smell. They opened my door even though I keep it closed so the smells of the rest of the house don't get in and only mine stay in, so the little tiny bit that could of helped is lost and it smells worse in there than out here because my room is closer. I'm quite annoyed. Current Mood: April 22nd, 2005:
Ever notice how one person can make a perfectly good, happy day go bad with one comment? I was happy and bumming around doing nothing and now I'm all like wthf? Leave me alone. Current Mood: April 3rd, 2005 |
